Chocolate Green Smoothie- Low Glycemic
Beginning the day with this yummy morning smoothie feels like waking up to ice cream for breakfast. My power shake is smooth, rich, and chocolatey. Wake me I’m dreaming! Starting your day this way, with a smart breakfast-in-a-glass makes sense. My tasty shake is low glycemic, supplement dense, and full of fibre. This works for diabetics, my paleo people and anyone who wants more energy. Why? Because you get your day’s nutrients in a delicious, low sugar, and easy to consume morning beverage.
Blending for better absorption
Most people like a smoothie because of the texture- creamy, fruity, and well, smooth. The main way you create a morning shake is by mixing your ingredients in a blender to create a thick, sweet and sometimes frozen drink. Did you know that there is another reason why blending is important? When you blend nuts and fruits together to create a drink you actually break them down into smaller particles. These tiny pieces are easier for your body to absorb, so you are able to take in more of the important vitamins and minerals in your food.
Banana or no banana?
The one bad thing about smoothies is that in addition to making the nutrients more absorb-able, the blending will make the drink higher in sugar. For diabetics this means using a high sugar fruits such as banana will create a drink that will actually spike blood sugar. For this reason I have chosen to omit bananas from my recipe even though they are the go-to smoothie ingredient. Instead, to create my Chocolate Green Smoothie I use low glycemic blueberries, strawberries and avocado. Together these create a drink that is sweet, creamy and satisfying. If you are not diabetic and do not need to watch your sugar feel free to add 1-2 frozen bananas to this recipe.
A great shake for fasting
Chocolate Green Smoothie is a fantastic recipe to use for days when you might consider fasting. Sometimes when I have been wild with my eating I try to do a mellow fast with shakes and juices for breakfast and lunch, with a normal dinner. That usually puts everything back on track for me. Juice fasting for longer periods of time has been shown to greatly enhance health. Some individuals also practice fasting once a week and find that helps improve their immune function. It is definitely worth looking into if you want to improve your health and energy.
Here’s what I love about the ingredients for the Chocolate Green Smoothie:
I can’t say enough about Green Vibrance. This is a fantastic product that I have been using for myself and my family for over twenty years. It is vegan, without additives and contains your nutrients, probiotics and vitamins for the day. I have found when I take it daily I have sustained energy, great sleep through the night and better skin and hair.

This actually applies to the chocolate smoothie. I never heard of cacao nibs before. Where can I buy them? Also I don’t know what maca is.
Cacao Nibs are the raw unrefined cocoa beans. They have tons of anti-oxidants and nutrients. When they are blended they are a bit bitter, but with a nice chocolatey flavour, and of course the energy of chocolate. I am going to add affiliate links to the story so if you want to buy them on-line you can do that. Maca is a South American potato. It is great for energy and for regulating your hormones.
I just updated the links so you can find the cacao nibs.Happy shaking!
