“I only go out to get me a fresh appetite for being alone” Lord Byron
“Lazy River” was photographed in Phonecia, N.Y. where, as you can see, the Esopus River plays a staring roll.
At the river I feel like a child. My only concerns are choosing to take a nap in my hammock with a soft feather pillow, or to eat a delicious snack of fresh peaches.
Suddenly, I must get myself into that water. Ten minutes have passed since my last dip. My feet negotiate the slippery rocks, the water is definitely frigid. I hold my breath and plunge in.
” Mind over matter!” I tell myself.
The current pulls me, dangerous tendrils and icy cold water. I break the sky blue surface, shocked, gasping. How could Virginia Wolfe have done it?
My body glows in the ninety degree humidity. Nearby, the buzz of cicadas.
