Home Hair Care- Bubby Lily’s Thrifty Tips
Click here to learn about Bubby Lily’s Thrifty Tips
My grandmother Bubby Lily was a great advocate of beauty, such as ‘Home Hair Care”. She was intense in her approach, as you will learn. I am sure that you are also interested in leaning some beauty tricks, especially ones that costs under a dollar- with a hundred dollar result. Bubby Lily would enjoy the make at home and thrifty “Home Foot Scrubber” recipe that I have created for you below
Bubby Lilly cared about beauty and liked to take care of herself. She was also very strong in the d.i.y. department. My brother E and I were sometimes the subject of her beauty experiments.
One day, I was sitting reading comic books with my brother on our grandparents screened in porch in Syracuse, N.Y. Bubby Lily came blustering into the room carrying a large paper bag. (She hated it when we were lounging around reading comics and always would want us to be actively working on improving ourselves.)
“Lisa, dear” she said rustling the paper bag she had in her hands, “Today I am going to make you and your brother look gorgeous!”. Out of the bag she pulled a jar of mayonnaise and two plastic bags. I was mesmerized and a little horrified. Last time she had that gleam in her eyes she bleached my hair platinum blond.
“Here, sit down” she said, while positioning E on the chair. He had a concerned look on his face that she ignored. He was only seven.
“Now, we are going to work on your hair”. She spooned mayonnaise onto his hair, and massaged it into his scalp with her manicured fingers. Then she covered his hair with a plastic bag.
Next it was my turn. I tried not to gag. I hated the smell of mayonnaise, but she was so determined and bossy that I could not say no.
“I am setting the egg timer for ten minutes, and when it rings you are going to both look like the movie stars!” She said with a flourish, then went off to bake a cake.
I know that some of you pay a fortune for your beauty regimes( snail gel facials anyone?) but for those of us who prefer to do our own, fear not! I am going to lay some knowledge on you.
There are many great treatments that you can do at home that do not involve mayonnaise! I am going to show you how you can soften your feet so they feel like a cute little baby’s tushie.

Home Foot Scrubber
Home Foot scrubber is a great plan for times when you want to give your feet a treat. I like to wear the socks around for a few hours, and allow the salt and oil to do it’s work. The result is baby soft feet.
1/2 cup kosher salt
2 Tbl. olive oil
3 drops lavender essential oil
clean old cotton socks
Mix the kosher salt with the olive oil and three drops of lavender oil. Next iron a pair of old cotton socks, rub the salt and oil mixture on your feet, using alot of the mixture. Cover your feet with the socks. Walk around in your socks for at least an hour. If you want it to really work, leave on over night. When you are done, wash off any excess salt.
I also use this mixture when I go to the sauna for my entire body. You may want to make extra to have on hand, or share some and make a friend.
