Holiday eating guide- tips and tricks-Does your normally disciplined eating regime fall apart during the holidays? Kids off school, late night holiday parties, and hosting out of town visitors all can contribute to bad food choices. My simple three step rule, and post party tonic recipe can help. Try to support your health during the treacherous holiday eating season.
A simple three step rule of B.D.A.(before, during, after) works to prep you for the social events and circumstances that compromise your health.
-
Before- prepare
-
During-work strategically
-
After-commit to health
Before- prepare
Parties are scheduled, so schedule your behaviour. Make sure to get your exercise workout in the day before and day of your party. The more your metabolism is moving, the less likely your bad choices will compromise your health.
Create a success regime for yourself
Because I am more likely to over eat when I am under hydrated, I try to drink two 16 oz glass of quality water before I go out. I also make a point to eat something healthy and filling before I leave, such as cabbage slaw, or easy greens. Whatever you do, don’t go to a party hungry, that is a recipe for disaster!
Bring a healthy dish that you enjoy
Ask your hostess first. Bring a healthy food that you like such as coco balls, or coconut yogurt sundae .
During- Work Strategically
Why is it that at parties everyone is itching to sabotage your eating choices? When I have hostesses forcing plates of pulled pork sandwiches on me I tell them a very small lie. Something vague like “Oh, that looks delicious, but I am having some tests” usually works great.
Be strategic about your choices
I was at a party yesterday and had a delightful glass of pink champagne. I really enjoyed it! If you make the decision to cheat, do it with something that you really love. Savour and make it last. Don’t eat the lame pumpkin pie just because someone hands it to you. And try to have fun! Being a part of the party and enjoying new friends can be really satisfying
After- Plan for Health
Before bed drink my post party tonic. It will have you right as rain by morning. The next day excersize in the morning, juice after your work out, and hydrate very well. I usually wait until I am hungry to eat. Think about your night and remember how much fun you had dancing, flirting, laughing…
Post Party Tonic

This post party tonic can be applied any time you have over indulged and want to support your body in eliminating the toxins.
- Prep Time: 2 minutes
- Total Time: 2 minutes
- Yield: 32 oz.
- Category: Beverage
- Method: Mixing
- Cuisine: Health Tonic
Ingredients
two 16 oz glasses of quality water
1 tbl Bragg’s apple cider vinegar
1 tbl extra virgin cold pressed olive oil
1 tea organic turmeric powder
1 tbl pro-biotics
Instructions
Fill your two glasses with water. To the first add you apple cider vinegar, to the second add your turmeric. Measure out your pro-biotic and your olive oil. First swallow the glass of water with the apple cider vinegar, then take the spoon of olive oil, followed by the spoon of pro-biotic. Follow it with your glass of tumeric water.
Notes
If you find any of these elements too strong for you, eliminate it from this practice. On their own, each of these protocols can help to enhance your health. Do what you feel comfortable with. If the turmeric is too strong, you can add a few drops of stevia or monk fruit to make it more palatable.
Great advice! I’m already starting to mentally reign in my holiday eating so we’ll so how I do when it’s all over ….. help! 😉 And here I see apple cider vinegar again. What a versatile product! I haven’t tried monk fruit yet …. perhaps now is the time. Happy holiday preparations!
